Lip and Nose Relief

Nose, Lips, Eyes

My lips and nose suffer the most when I travel. On the plane, I make sure that I prepare both for the cold, stale, dry air.

Always embarrassed of my big lips growing up, I only used Chapstick to keep my lips moist. Even today, with the Jolie and Kardashian BIG lips rage, I remain a Chapstick or clear lip gloss girl.

My timeline of chapsticks shimmered from Carmac in the 70s, Blistex in the 80s, Keihl in the 90s to my all-time favorite today…Hourglass.

Nordstrom’s description of hourglass lip oil:

The advanced anti-aging treatment combines essential oils, vitamins and three powerful active ingredients in a supremely luxurious oil blend. Each is also equipped with an opulent 24-karat gold-plated tip.

What I love about this lip gloss is it is emollient and thick. It is perfect for my dry lips on planes and in cold weather. I also love the sexy packaging and that I do not have to put the product on my finger to apply.

This lipgloss is very pricey. I guess, they justify the price by marketing it as a lip oil “treatment.” I wish the designer had nixed the 24-kt gold-plated tip to bring the cost down. I know I can buy six Kiehl lip balms for the price of one hourglass, but Kiehl does not stay on as well and I find myself constantly re-applying it versus with hourglass, I only have to apply it once or twice throughout the day.

HourglassYou can find Hourglass Lip Oil Treatment at: Nordstrom, Barneys, Sephora and Space NK Apothecary for $42. (During the holidays they offered a version with color)

As for dryness in my nose, I apply Nasya Oil. This oil is the best treatment for any issues from allergies to sinus congestion to dryness.

I like Ayurvedic Institute and Banyan Banyan Botanical’s Nasya Oil the best.

Banyan Botanicals Nasya Oil

Banyan Botanicals Nasya oil description below:

The nose is the direct route to the brain and also the doorway to consciousness. When an excess of bodily fluids accumulates in the sinus, throat, nose or head areas, it is best eliminated through the nose. Administration of herbally infused oil, or nasya, helps facilitate this cleansing process. Nasya Oil soothes and protects the nasal passages and helps relieve sinus congestion. Daily nasal lubrication helps to release tension in the head and relieve accumulated stress. Balancing for vata, pitta, and kapha, Nasya Oil is also traditionally said to improve quality of voice, strengthen vision and promote mental clarity.*

I put my Nasya oil in a tiny glass vial and on the plane, I apply a little of the oil onto a q-tip and thoroughly lubricate the inside of my nose.

Banyan Botanicals sells Nasya Oil for $12.95 on Amazon and on their website for $10.95. The Ayurvedic Institute sells Nasya Oil on their website for $14.00.
